Storyboard Text

  • Titiro he moa (Look it's a moa)
  • ko wai tenei tangata? (who is this man?)
  • The queen has requested that we become one with Aotearoa
  • Kaore ahau e haina i taua (I will not sign that)
  • Before the treaty. The Maori lived enjoying there flax bags and natural artwork. Living with the animals and killing some for their meat.
  • in Māori it gave Queen Victoria governance over the land
  • while in English it gave her sovereignty over the land
  • In 1840 the British wanted to claim Aotearoa as their own so they made the Treaty Of Waitangi.
  • They made two copies one for the Maori and one for the British. All the British signed the treaty but only some of the Maori signed theirs.
  • I'm so happy to live in Aotearoa.
  • But the two treaties said different things. The English treaty had a stronger term.
  • The treaties went all over the land and got signed by some of the Maori chiefs.
  • Now we have the beautiful land of Aotearoa/New Zealand home to Maori and Pakeha.
