  • Japan Colonization/Imperialism
  • This land is now part of Japan
  • U.S. Oil/Steel Embargo on Japan
  • Stop all trading with Japan!
  • Pearl Harbor, Hawaii & Suprise Attack
  • In the 1930's Japan began to expand its empire into China. Japan wanted to create a New Order in East Asia and become a world power.
  • Appeasement of Hitler
  • I will be content if I can have Czechoslovakia!
  • After Japan began to take over Asia it began to threaten U.S. controlled islands. The U.S. gave Japan  90% of its supplies needed to keep its war machine going and when Japan refused to stop the U.S. placed a trade embargo.
  • FDR/"Date That Will Live in Infamy"
  • We must never forget what happened today!
  • Germany will help the Soviets
  • After the trade embargo, Japan wanted to knock America out of the war by destroying its Pacific Fleet.  On December 7, 1941 Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that killed 3,000.
  • Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact
  • After Hitler rose to power and began to take back what was previously Germany's the Allies began to appease him to avoid war. Eventually, his demands were too much and this led to the outbreak of the war.
  • After the Attack on Pearl Harbor FDR gave a speech to Congress on "The Date That Will Live in Infamy". In this speech FDR requested that war be declared on Japan.
  • After Germany became too powerful the Allies tried to get the Soviets to help them. Germany got an alliance with them first and Germany and the Soviets went to war united as one.
