Storyboard Text

  • ANTEBELLUM the play
  • States Rights and Nullification
  • We get to decide if we are a free or slave state!!
  • South Carolina should be able to secede!! You can't threaten us!!
  • You can't force us to use tariffs. The central government has too much power!!
  • We deserve our states rights!!!!
  • The Slave Compromises
  • I am passing the Missouri Compromise in which the 36, 30 parallel will decide whether a state can have slaves or not.
  • Well now I am passing the Kansas- Nebraska Act in which the 36, 30 parallel is repealed and now states can decide whether to own slaves depending on the popular soverignty
  • Hello and welcome to the Antebellum period I am William Mulberry a congressman for Georgia and I will be guiding you along on your journey through the Antebellum period and what truly led to the civil war.
  • Slavery and the Dred Scott case
  • I Own a plantation in the South and slavery is a big source of our economy. Slavery is GREAT!!!!
  • I am an abolitionist and slavery in inhumane and terrible we should get rid of it all. Slavery is BAD!!
  • I am here with these protesters and we are arguing for our state rights. It all started when the North began placing tariffs on exported goods to help their economy but it hurt the South's economy. So we revolted and threatened to secede, but then the gov't threatened to attack us if we didn't cooperate in the Nullification Crisis. We are also arguing that each state should have the right to own slaves because they have began laying down restrictions which is hurting our economy.
  • The Fugitive Slave Act
  • We are now passing the Compromise of 1850 in which it states that any slaves that have escaped to the North must be returned to their owners, with the Fugitive Slave Act
  • But I escaped I am free, you cant do this. You can't force me back.
  • I have just witnessed two compromises that won't end well. The Missouri Compromise only allows states south of the line to own slaves which angered many southerners. Then congress passed the Kansas- Nebraska Act I was shocked! They repealed the 36, 30 line and now are letting states choose to have slaves using popular sovereignty. It started in Kansas now known as "Bleeding Kansas." The fighting of Abolitionists vs. Pro slavers is horrendous and I know its only getting worse.
  • GA's seccession and the start of the Confederacy
  • We need to secede now. The tyrant Lincoln will take away our slaves and reduce our economy to nothing. We need to take action!!!
  • I am Abraham Lincoln and now that I am president I have declared that SECCESION is illegal.
  • I am present at the Dred Scott case. It is a big deal and has made it all the way to the Supreme Court. Dred Scott a slave claimed that since his owner took him to a free state he was free playing on the claim, "once free, always free." The Supreme Court has ruled against his claim and he has remained a slave. This is going to cause an uproar throughout the country and further divide the North and the South.
  • I am here with my very good friend Alexander Stephens and as Georgia Congressmen, our platform strongly supports the fugitive slave act and the Compromise of 1850. This may cause some tension with the abolitionists, but it will help our economy. I mean they had tariffs and we have slaves, I think its fair.
  • Georgia loves this. We are going to get more slaves. This is great!!!!!
  • The election of 1860 has just occured and Abraham Lincoln has been made president. My friend Alexander believes we shouldn't secede but I am not so sure. He is against having slaves and if he takes them away it could ruin our economy. We are going to vote in our state congress tomorrow whether or not to secede and there has been talk that they are going to make Alexander VP of their confederacy. We can only wait i hope it ends well. THE END
  • Hey guys, I love having slaves but seceding. I mean you heard what Lincoln said. But if we were to secede can i be VP?
