Storyboard Text

  • Hello there today I'll be talking octopuses! Do you know anything about them? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't!
  • Did you know octopuses camouflage better than a chameleon? Well octopuses are actually color blind and this is why scientists were left with questions on how they could see their surroundings. Well octopuses can actually see polarized light better than humans. Also changing color also represents how they feel; darker color usually means aggression while a pale color is skittish.
  • Not a lot of people know the abilities of an octopus and two of the coolest abilities are: Camouflaging and their supposed ability to 'taste' feelings!
  • Ya you that read correctly it's theorized that octopuses can taste feelings! Octopus' suckers are quite sensitive  and this is why some believe they can taste emotion. In 'The Soul of an Octopus' by Sy Montgomery she tells her experiences in which she believed octopuses tasted her emotion.
  • How do these two abilities relate? Well as I said before  because of octopuses sensitive arms they can taste neurotransmitters and just by touching someone they can taste how ones feeling. After tasting someone or something they may change color to signal how they feel. These two ideas piggyback off each other.
  • I hope you learned a little something about octopuses! Just remember the next time you see this magnificent sea creature remember what its capible of!
