George and Francis struggle with "Man vs. Self Conflicts" in the story as they struggle to follow along with what is going on in the world around them. George because of his "handicap", and Hazel because of her"average intelligence."
Harrison struggles with a "Man vs. Society Conflict" in that he opposes the government's use of handicaps and declares himself to be the new leader.
Diana Moon Glampers, Harrison, and his "Empress" show a "Man vs. Man conflict" when Diana shoots and kills the other 2 characters.
