"A Shocking Story" by Graham Greene He was born in Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire. Became a Roman Catholic after studying at Oxford University. Kensley Young 1st period 5/1/18
The two main characters in this story are the dad and his son. The son would make stuff up about what his dad did for his work. But really, the dad moved guns for a living. The dad wasn't really there for his son.
The son was called down to the office and they asked him what his dad did at his job. He told them he was a British Secret Service so they would be proud. This is in the middle of the day, in the office at the school, and it was sad.
The main conflict is when the son went to the office and they told him his dad was shot in the heart. But the truth is a pig fell on him and broke his neck on his way home from moving guns.
The son got married and his wife asked how his dad died. He finally told her and she laughed about it and felt sorry for him. He always told her it was a street accident and he didn't want to treat his the way his dad treated him.
The theme is illustrated by the death of Jerome's father, who was walking down the streets of Naples when he was killed by a pig falling from the balcony. When Jerome is given the news, he initially assumes that his father was shot in the heart. Sally thought he meant his father was in a car accident. This was very sad to me and it caught me by surprise.
