This is Timmy. Timmy is currently in the hospital because he was found to have an eating disorder.
Eating disorders have many negative effects on healthy growth and development. For example, they affect ones self-esteem. During puberty teenagers tend to focus a lot on their body image and if they don't like what they see then they may go to extreme lengths to "fix" it.
Eating disorders can also cause a loss in bone density which affects how tall you grow. It also affects your heart muscle.
Another affect eating disorders have on healthy growth and development is that is can cause anxiety and depression.
Someone with a negative body image sees themselves not as they truly are and are more likely to develop an eating disorder. Someone with a positive body image sees themselves as they truly are.
It is important to get professional help for your eating disorder because eating disorders involve both the mind and body, so doctors and therapists can help you gradually lean to eat well along with your friends and family.
