Storyboard Text

  • Charles Robert Darwin and Jean-Baptiste Pierre Antoine de Monet Chavelier de Lamarck both became very curious about the idea of evolution.
  • Darwin decided to travel around the world. In 1831, he boarded the HMS Beagle to begin his 5 year long journey
  • HMS Beagle
  • In the Galapagos, he discovered that the birds were very similar, but had different beaks. This Began his theory on evolution.
  • -Animals have nothing to do with how they evolve. -Organisms are all different, even if from the same species. -Organisms that have variations that help, survive and reproduce. -Those that do not adapt will die off. -Evolution doesn't occur due to a plan. It happens naturally.
  • However, Lamarck believed something different. He studied changes in animals and fossils. This led him to his theory of evolution.
  • -Evolution occurs according to a plan. -Change is made by what the organism wants or needs. -If an organism began to use an organ more than in the past, it would increase (a giraffe's neck). -If the use of an organ is used less, it decreases. -Changes are passed on to offspring.
