Charles Robert Darwin and Jean-Baptiste Pierre Antoine de Monet Chavelier de Lamarck both became very curious about the idea of evolution.
Darwin decided to travel around the world. In 1831, he boarded the HMS Beagle to begin his 5 year long journey
In the Galapagos, he discovered that the birds were very similar, but had different beaks. This Began his theory on evolution.
-Animals have nothing to do with how they evolve. -Organisms are all different, even if from the same species. -Organisms that have variations that help, survive and reproduce. -Those that do not adapt will die off. -Evolution doesn't occur due to a plan. It happens naturally.
However, Lamarck believed something different. He studied changes in animals and fossils. This led him to his theory of evolution.
-Evolution occurs according to a plan. -Change is made by what the organism wants or needs. -If an organism began to use an organ more than in the past, it would increase (a giraffe's neck). -If the use of an organ is used less, it decreases. -Changes are passed on to offspring.
