Hello my name is John W. Jones. I am her at the Elmira prison and here I dig the graves for the soldiers who have died.
These soldiers were given Insufficient food, extreme bout of dysentery, typhoid, pneumonia, small pox, inadequate medical care and flooding of the chemung River resulted in the deaths of 2,963 prisoners.
This place is awful
The elmira prison was supposed to be a training camp, but it turned into a prisoner of war camp.

There were 2,963 deaths at the Elmira Prison. They didn't die fighting for their families or fighting for their country they died being held captive.
The Elmira prison Since there wasn't very many people in the war for the north and the south because of the Elmira prison and the Andersonville prison. They were able to keep people help captive until the war was over. This definitely helped our nation.
The Elmira prison helped the north because they didn have to kill has many people since most of them were in the prison. This hurt the south because they didn't have as many fighting in the war as they needed.
