Initially, the animals were happy and gamboled and capered about in the fields. Their newfound freedom was a welcome escape from their maltreatment by Mr. Jones.
Eventually all animals came to accept the maxim of "Four legs good, two legs bad." Always cynical, Benjamin the donkey did as he was told. He read all of Manor Farm's commandments, but wasn't terribly sure everyone would follow them.
As time passed, Napolean was regarded as the ruler of Manor farm. Although the other animals missed Old Major, the more stringent rules of Napoleon came be be accepted as well.
