  • Education
  • I got a very good education for a girl in this time period.
  • The election
  • 'Who is that man?" Quote from Mary when she saw Abraham Lincoln.
  • Mary Todd Lincoln was born on December 13, 1818. Her parents were Robert Smith Todd and Elizabeth Edwards. She had a sister named Elizabeth Parker.
  • Civil War
  • "I have no hope of the re-election of Mr. Lincoln. The canvass is a heated one, the people begin to murmur at the war, and every vile charge is brought against my husband."
  • Mary attended a local school in her home town, then went to a boarding school.
  • North Wins
  • "What day is so dark that there is no ray of sunshine to penetrate the gloom."
  • Mary married Abraham Lincoln. He soon became the sixteenth president of the United States. Mary stayed with Lincoln even when the Southern states seceded because he was elected.
  • Mary's Death
  • Mary died from a stroke on July 16, 1882.
  • Because the South separated from the North it started the civil war. At this time President Lincoln was not very popular, however, Mary stayed loyal to him. Mary did not have any military training.
  • Finally, the north won the civil war. President Lincoln was re-elected but unfortunately was shot in Fords theatre, April 15, 1865. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth.
  • After Lincoln was shot Mary was sent to an insane asylum by her son. After a few years Mary went to live with her sister.
