  • Write an essay in which you take a position on whether or not naps are generally good for people. Use the information presented in the passages to support your argument. Make sure to include information from all the passages in your essay.
  • *Place Students in 4 collaborative groups.
  • *Assign each group a different source article. *Read and Mark the Text for on eBackpack.
  • Writing an Argumentative Essay Lesson
  • *Provide each group a piece of chart paper marked for a Tchart. *Have students record the claims from both sides of their article on the Tchart. *Have each group share out their evidence for both sides of the argument. *As a class, choose your position.

  • Breakdown the Prompt -Circle the type of essay -Box in question words -Underline topic once -Underling points twice
  • *Rotate groups to new article/new chart paper *Write two main ideas for the evidence on the side of chosen position. *Have each group share out. *Rotate again *Have each group identify 2 pieces of evidence for the each main idea.
  • Main Idea 1: Text Evidence: x2 Main Idea 2: Text Evidence: x2
  • Classroom Setup
  • *Rotate one final time *Students will find and record evidence for a counterclaim
  • *Rotate groups a final time *Have student locate and record evidence for counterclaim *Share out counterclaim evidence for refuting
