  • King Louis XIV escaped his castle during his night after his country went into debt due to lavish spending and poor harvest from the Old Regime.
  • There was 3 estates first(clergy), second(nobles), and third(peasants and bourgeoisies). The third estate was at a huge disadvantage compared to the others because the others had complete control over them.
  • The tennis court oath was an oath made by the third estate on a tennis court. The oath stated that the third estate would not stop until a positive change was made.
  • The storming of the Bastille was when the third estate broke into Bastille Prison to try and find weapons. It was the first rebellious act made by the third estate.
  • King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette were beheaded by a guillotine during the reign of terror. The were beheaded for treason against their country.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte came to power through a coup d' etat. This means to suddenly take a government through force. He conquered many countries before he even took the throne, then enforced the Napoleonic Code on France. Until his army was defeated by Russia's scorched Earth policy.
