The Germans declared there right to unrestricted submarine warfare through the Sussex pledge and exercised this right by sinking the Lusitania.
The Zimmerman Letter was a secret message sent to the German ambassador in Mexico. It proposed an alliance between Germany and Mexico that required Mexico to reconquer their lost territory now belonging to America.
Due to the sinking of the Lusitania, the Sussex Pledge, the unrestricted submarine warfare, and the Zimmerman letter, Woodrow Wilson was forced to enter World War 1 and fight for democracy.
