  • William the Conquer
  • I have won the battle with the last King's brother in law, Harold, who was chosen by the Nobles to be the new king. I am now crowned as the new King of England.
  • The Doomsday Book
  • Henry ||
  • Im the King of England. I broadened the system of royal justice.
  • Duke William, William of the Conqueror, was made King of England on Christmas Day 1066. He was a ruthless king and was able to have a firm control over his lands. His successors continued to increase royal authority and soon created the royal exchequer, or treasury, to collect taxes.
  • King John
  • For King William to learn about his kingdom, he completed the census. The result of that was Doomsday Book. It listed every castle, and field in England. The Domesday Book helped King William build an adequate system of tax collecting.
  • The Magna Carta
  • King Henry inherited the throne in 1154. He was a energetic and well educated King. He found ways to expand custom royal laws, laid the basis for common law, and developed an early jury system.
  • King Edward |
  • King John was a greedy, cruel, and untrustworthy king. He faced three powerful rulers and lost his struggle with each of them. He soon accepted England as a fief of the papacy and pay a yearly fee to Rome. One of King John's accomplishment was signing a document to limit royal power and extend rights.
  • I am the son of the last King Henry ||.
  • The Magna Carta was signed to limit the power of the monarchy. King John of England was forced by a group of nobles to sign this document. The Magna Carta granted English citizens rights and made it clear that the monarch had to obey the law.
  • King Edward later on presides over what was called the Model of Parliament. The Parliament approved money for his wars in France. Soon, later English monarchs summoned Parliament for their own purposes.
