Henry Beauclerc was the youngest of four sons. He also had three other sisters. His parents did not expect him to become king
When William lay dying he halfed his kingdom between his two eldest sons. Robert and William Rufus.
On the 1st of August William Rufus died. He was killed when he was hunting in the New Forest. He was shot in the heart with an arrow and died. No one knows whether this death was an accident or murder. Apparently Henry was hunting with William when the accident happened
Three days after William Rufus died, his younger brother, Henry was crowned king.
King Henry arranged for his eight year old daughter, Matilda to marry Henry V. Henry V was the future Holy Roman Emperor
In November 1135 Henry was ill. He was ill because he ate quite a lot of lampreys (a type of eel) which his doctor did not approve of. He died on 1st of November 1135 and was buried at Reading Abbey
