Emigration from Ireland
By kiersten, Updated
This is a story of a 17 year old boy named Patrick from Ireland. It takes place in the 1840's during Ireland's deadly potato famine. He travels to the United States with New York City as his final destination, in hopes of finding a good job in order to help support his struggling family in Ireland.
I feel so blessed.I live in the beautiful country of Ireland,on a very prosperous potato farm with my wounderful family.Aah..life is good.
(2 years later)It's 1846.In this day and age, how could this potato fungus practically destroy an entire country.I have to do something to help my family. But what??
This is our only chance for survival.I will send for you all as soon as I can.Tell my little brother I will see him again soon.
My dear son,you are only 17.I cannot bear the thought of you leaving us.The United States is so far away and the journey there alone can be deadly.Be careful .
This ship is horrible, but I know New York City will be worth it.
It has been such a long journey, with many fatalities. How much longer can the rest of us "dreamers"hold out?
I MADE IT! I made it to the U.S.,made it through the 4 hours of inprocessing at the Port of New York, and I am still healthy enough to get a job.
