  • Fever 1793 By Laurie Halse Anderson
  • Hi i'm Mattie and this is my coffeehouse!
  • Claim
  • Reason #1
  • In the book Fever Mattie Cook lives in a coffeehouse with her family until a sickness called yellow fever and as this is going on she is lost between worlds one where she day dreams about where she wants yo live and the other in a world of sickness, hunger and death.
  • Reason #2
  • In the book Fever 1793 Grandfather is the most important person in Mattie's life
  • Counterargument
  • The first reason is, Grandfather was always kind to Mattie unlike some of the grandfathers to others. They had a special bond that Mattie did not have with her mother. "Look here, gentlemen sweets offered by the sweetest filly in the commonwealth" (Pg.19) that just shows there bond with eachother.
  • Conclusion
  • The second reason is Grandfather always made mattie feel better by telling her to think of things as an adventure. Just like in here " My family owned the cook coffeehouse. The soon to be famous cook coffeehouse." " as grandfather used to say " (pg 7) also this quote "Grandfather tried to smile" " We'll make it an adventure lass." (forgot the page number)
  • Some might say the most important character is Eliza because she acts to Mattie as if she was her other mother, best friend and sister. However grandfather played a huge role in Mattie's life with everything he did he always made her happy, made her feel like herself and more grown up.
  • Grandfather was always on Mattie's side no matter what, when her mom would get on her or other people calling her "little mattie" he always made hr smile with saying that things are going to be an adventure, during this time he was trying to make her teenage life more fun. Such as on page 27 and 19 on both of those pages the author has grandfather sticking up for Mattie . Therefore Grandfather in the book Fever 1793 is the most important character in the book.
