Storyboard Text

  • Sam has thrown food on the floor at lunch and is frustrated about something.
  • I'm not cleaning up the milk! Not my problem! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!
  • Sam you look like you are feeling frustrated.
  • Let's take a break for a minute, is everything ok?
  • A lunchroom situation of aggressive behavior has quickly escalated.
  • Jeff said my lunch stinks and it was making him want to throw up. My Grandma made it for me just before she had to go to the hospital.
  • The lunchroom teacher notices Sam and the behavior.  She acknowledges Sam's feelings and emotions.
  • Sam you must be really sad about your grandma & that Jeff said mean things about your food. But you still can't throw food.
  • The teacher suggests that Sam take a minute to calm down  and to see what's going on with Sam.
  • Sam you did a good job of cleaning up the food you threw.  I'm really proud of the way you have turned this situation around.  We'll have a chat with Jeff after this.
  • And I really hope your grandma feels better soon.
  • The teacher lets Sam talk after giving Sam a minute to calm down.
  • Sam is clearly upset about his grandmother and the comments the other child made about his food.
  • The teacher sits with Sam while Sam faces the consequence of throwing food.  Sam is cooled off now and they will chat with Jeff later about using nicer words with friends.
