Storyboard Text

  • Gene
  • 'It was early afternoon and the grounds and were deserted, since everyone was at sports.'
  • Finny
  • "I have a feeling I can swim faster than A. Hopkins Parker."
  • Brinker
  • "I'm giving it up, I'm going to enlist. Tomorrow."
  • Gene never was really into sports. He often spent his time studying, however later in the book, Finny convinces him to train for the 1944 Olympics.
  • Leper
  • Finny was naturally athletic and had the determination to beat the school record. He ended up beating the record by .7 second. Finny did not have to train prior to swimming, it just came easily to him.
  • Quackenbush
  • Brinker was always talking about the war and decided that he was going to enlist. Gene agreed that he would enlist with Brinker, but when Finny came back to Devon, Gene follow through with the plan of enlisting because he did not want to abandon Finny. Brinker's goal of enlisting was destroyed since Gene would not go with him.
  • Dr. Stanpole
  • "This is something I think boys of your generation are going to see a lot of, and I will have to tell you about it now. Your friend is dead."
  • Leper skis to enjoy himself and his surroundings. He likes to be by himself and do what is best for him.
  • "I just like to go along and see what I'm passing and enjoy myself."
  • Quackenbush treats Gene very poorly when the first meet. He is tough to get along with since he is so strict and serious about everything.
  • "The crew waits for no man."
  • Dr. Stanpole was Finny's doctor that tried everything to save him. He knows Gene and Finny are close and he did not want to be the person informing Gene that his friend had just died. He is very considerate about how others are feeling and tries to help them in the best way possible.
