The narrator gives the speech although nobody was listening and he made a controversial comment regarding social equality that nobody was able to hear.
The narrator is presented with the briefcase containing the scholarship that he was promised if he gave his speech.
His family and his neighbors celebrate the scholarship.
This is important because it shows how even though he got the chance to deliver his speech. the white men still didn't respect him. He even made a comment about equality because he didn't feel equal because of the things he went through.
The narrator dreams that he is talking to his grandfather. He opens the briefcase which contains some shocking words.
"keep that nigger boy running"
This is important because it shows how he got what he wanted after all of the stuff he was forced to do. he doesn't realize it but he just witnessed what his grandfather told him to do before he died.
In this scene the narrator like he is safe in his grandfather's curse. he is celebrating for what he thinks is proving his grandfather's dying words wrong.
This dreams shows how the narrator's life will continue to be because of the racism in the country. He will be under the mercy of white men, much like his grandfather told him.
