  • What was the cause of the 30 year war? It was mostly about religion, Protestants vs Catholics and who has power.
  • Bohemian
  • Protestants throw Catholics out the window (70 feet in the air). Likely the Catholics survived the fall with-out serious injury.
  • Danish
  • Looting: Payment to private Army.
  • Swedish
  • For the Bohemian, Protestant try to overthrow Catholic rule.
  • French
  • The Holy Roman Empire and the Catholics will defeat the Danish allies.
  • Effects
  • The effects of the 30 year war caused Germany to gain independence, but they lost 20% of their total population.
  • At the Battle of Lützen (November, 1632), the Swedish king was killed while leading his forces to victory against Wallenstein. The Hapsburg forces were able to regain some of the territory they had lost.
  • After five years of negotiation, during which fighting continued, the 30 years' ended with the Pease of the Wesphialia.
  • Germany- Religious toleration The Spanish and HRE/ Hapsburgs looses power, while France gain power.
