If an individual was suffering from a range of signs and symptoms including abdominal pain, cramping, blood In faeces, unintended weight loss, diarrhoea and fatigue, the individual would need to visit their GP.
The GP would take a series of measurements including blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate. Furthermore the GP would do full examination to rule out other conditions. The GP must first determine what is causing the symptoms.
If the tests came back with abnormalities, the GP would refer the patient (a professional referral) to a digestive system specialist such as a gastroenterologist. The individual would then undergo further testing.
The specialist would then put the patient under a series of examinations and tests including imaging tests, biopsy, endoscopy, and finally capsule endoscopy tests. The results of these tests would show the extent of the disease, & the specialist would then be able make an accurate diagnosis.
The specialist would then begin to suggest possible treatments suitable for the patient. A popular choice of medication is steroid medication called corticosteroids, taken trough injections or tablets. This medication stops the inflammation of the intestine, however the patient would also be kept in resubmission.
The patient should being to slowly show signs of improvement although the disorder will affect them for life. However the patient may need to adjust their lifestyle by quitting smoking, reducing stress and keeping their immune system healthy.
