Storyboard Description

This is about the crossing of the Delaware River in the revolutionary war. It was the real turning point for the Americans.

Storyboard Text

  • The First Crossing
  • The Redcoats Come
  • They Plan
  • The Continental Army arrive at the bank of the Delaware River. The Hessians are on the same side of the river as them. They need to cross. Gen. Washington sends some people to get some boats. They get on the boats.
  • Christmas Night
  • The Redcoats come and shoot at the army. The ones who survive get across. One day later: They set up camp. They are in awful condition. Less than 2,000 men are well enough to fight. They only have 18 pieces of artillery.
  • The Battle
  • Someone offers his home as a headquarters for Washington. They make plans. They learn that British General Howe and 1200 Hessian soldiers occupy Trenton. They spy on the soldiers in Trenton.
  • Victory
  • The soldiers of the Continental Army load onto the boats and set off across the river. It is night and when they finally get everyone across, it's early morning. They have to take some people hostage until the battle is over so they don't tell the Hessians.
  • The soldiers attack the Hessians. They go to Trenton as a surprise attack since all of the Hessians were intoxicated from the night before. The battle very hard.
  • The Hessians surrender. Their numbers are down. The Americans lost no one. This was the turning point for the war.
