Storyboard Text

  • I will be nearly fourteen when the baby comes. Wonder if Daddy'll get his boy this time?
  • Ma let on this morning in the kitchen that she was expecting again.
  • Still no rain! Seventy days of wind and sun, wind and clouds, and wind and sand.
  • That burning pail can't be left behind in the bone-dry kitchen.
  • It finally rained but only briefly. The rain gives us all false hope.
  • OOH water
  • I tried to help but I just couldn't meanwhile my dad was in Guymon getting drunk.
  • Ma picked up the pot of water (or what she thought was water) to make daddy's coffee and the whole thing caught on fire. There had been kerosene in the pot that daddy had left sitting by the stove. Ma ran across the kitchen yelling for daddy.
  • Billie took off running back to the house to get the burning pail and take it outside. As she went to throw the burning liquid outside, her mom was coming back and her mom went up in flames. Billie pushed her to the ground and started beating out the flames with her hand
  • Daddy left, got drunk. He left Billie to take care of her mom. Billie could hardly hold the water to give her mom a drink because of her own blisters on her hands made it hard.
