My name is Kaitlyn Lotz and I’m a 26 year old resident of Saint Bernard Parish. I live in Chalmette with my husband, Corey, and our dog. We love exploring new restaurants, listening to live music, and planning vacations. I’ve been a parish girl all of my life. I grew up duck hunting and fishing with my dad, and I consider my mom and my sister two of my best friends.
Growing up, I struggled very much with reading and writing. It wasn’t until high school that the language arts began to evolve into one of my strengths. Today, I enjoy reading anything on the topic of education and the history of New Orleans. I truly believe that my struggle with reading led me to a profession in education.
I’ve been teaching in Saint Bernard Parish since 2012. I’m currently a second grade teacher leader at Arabi Elementary School. I love everything about teaching, especially my age group! My favorite part of the day is reading intervention. I see myself in so many of the kids that I work with, and I really love using the small group time to individualize my instruction and to allow my struggling readers the opportunity to feel success. My takeaway goal for this course is to incorporate the best practices into my instruction and to be a resource for my team of teachers at work.
