Storyboard Text

  • Gold was found in a stream in California. Word quickly got around and everyone was envious.
  • The dream that many future gold miners had was to go to California and get super rich off of all of the gold in the streams.
  • Thousands upon thousands of people moved to California to make their attempt to strike gold and get rich.
  • As more and more of the American population moved to the west to mine gold, Indians were considered lesser beings and were murdered and beaten and raped by white people.
  • The gold mining population grew so much, and there were so many different ethnicities mining in that one state, that fights and violence started to break out in the mining camp. There were just too many people mining for gold in California.
  • Within ten years, almost all of the gold on the surface of California had been taken away, and thousands of miners were forced to leave California because they had no luck with gold mining.
