Storyboard Text

  • Legend
  • Awe of Nature: "...a deep inlet, winding several miles into the interior of the country..." The treasure is hidden away from society.
  • I'm going to hide my treasure.
  • "Lovely" Marriage
  • I hate you!
  • Shortcut to the Devil
  • Let me think about it.
  • You're the devil!
  • Want some treasure?
  • Stories say that one day a pirate, Captain Kidd, hid his treasure in a swamp near Boston.
  • Denial
  • Tom Walker and his wife live close to the swamp. They do not get along as they often cheat each other and argue constantly.
  • Deal
  • Let's make the deal.
  • Your wife is probably dead.
  • Ok. :)
  • One day, Tom was far from home, so he took a shortcut through a swamp. While traveling through the shortcut, Tom encountered Old Scratch (the Devil) and was offered Captain Kidd's Treasure.
  • Deal is Off
  • AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
  • Tom came back home and told his wife about the encounter. She wanted Tom to sell his soul to the devil so she can be rich. Tom refused and she went to strike a deal herself. His wife did not come though.
  • Emotions & feelings more important than reason: "...he was determined not to do so to oblige his wife..." Tom decided not to give himself for money just for the sake of his wife.
  • Tom went back to the swamp. He thought he found his wife's remains and leaped for joy. Tom also met with Old Scratch again and struck the deal with him. He became his usurer and became very rich.
  • Interest in Common man: "...he did not insist upon it, but proposed instead, that he should turn usurer..." Like most people, Tom wants to be rich.
  • Many years passed and Tom began to worry about life after death. He became very religious, but he slipped up and Old Scratch came and a horse took Tom away. His house burned the next day.
