Storyboard Text

  • Hello class! I'm Mr Schmutz and today we are going to learn about a few things.
  • Here let me explain.
  • We are going to learn about speed.
  • What do you mean, Mr Schmutz?
  • Speed is the rate in which someone or something is able to move.
  • Take this boat for example. It is moving at a speed of 15 mph.
  • Velocity is the speed of something in a given direction.
  • That's good! Now there is also velocity.
  • I understand now!
  • What is velocity?
  • There is also something called the reference point.
  • Velocity involves direction while speed alone does not.
  • How is velocity different from speed then?
  • Point of reference (reference point) is the intentional use of one thing to indicate something else.
  • Often in science, it is used to indicate the motion of something.
  • For example, if the carousel was still and the ferris wheel was moving, the carousel could be the reference point because compared to the ferris wheel it shows that the ferris wheel is in motion.
