Explanation of what happened before the Hindenburg exploded, during the explosion, and after.
As the Hindenburg cruised over the Atlantic ocean, passengers sat in their cabins or in the promenade, enjoying their experience. But that day there were thunderstorms in the area where the Hindenburg was cruising, so it flew over the coast to try to avoid it, at 7:00 the Hindenburg made it to the landing field to stop, the crew inside the airship dropped ropes down so crew members below could bring the ship in, no one expected what would happen next
In 32 seconds the Hindenburg caught on fire and burned. 67 people survived the explosion. 1 person died on the ground, 5 more survivors died in the hospital.
Hugo Eckener, the designer of the Hindenburg, thought maybe the static electricity in the air ignited hydrogen in the airship, but no one knows for sure what caused the Hindenburg to explode.
