  • So we decided to declare war. This war becomes known as the War of 1812.
  • The British began an impressment policy, and supplied the natives, and that angered us.
  • Wait, the Americans want to go to war??
  • Unfortunately for us, the British attacked first, and burned the White House.
  • At Fort McHenry, Francis Scott Key wrote a poem called The Star-Spangled Banner, and in 1931, it became our National Anthem
  • Two years of fighting went on, and on December 24, 1814 the Treaty of Ghent was signed in Belgium. It officially ended the war, and showed that there was no clear winner.
  • Economic outcome of the war: it spurred economic growth in America,which moved it into an industrial economy. Social Outcome: "Era of Good Feelings" occurred as Americans experienced a period of unity and nationalism.
