  • In North America, there were thirteen colonies
  • A colony is a country or settlement that is controlled by another country and is occupied by  settlers from that country.
  • The colonies were located in North America and are categorized in three sections.
  • Southern Colonies
  • Middle Colonies
  • New England Colonies
  • Moreover, King George and the Parliament taxed the colonists to gain money for Britain
  • So, colonists responded to taxes by protesting and boycotting against the King and the British government.
  • As James Oties stated, "No Taxation without Representation "  it meant that the colonists are not paying taxes without being represented in the Parliament
  • "No Taxation without Representation"
  • Then, on March 5, 1770, the Boston Massacre occured. 
  • Several protesters were shot by British soldiers in King Street, Boston.
