Mikhail Gozdev, a cossack, sailed from Kamchatka through the Bering strait in 1732.
Drop the anchor!!!
Sir, there's a native coming towards us in a little boat!
Mikhail Gozdev was the first person to discover the Diomede islands.
When they reached the second Diomede island, the natives on that island shot at them.
The next day, they anchored off of Cape Prince of Wales.
Shortly after they lowered the anchor, a native approached the ship in a kayak. This was the first Russian contact with an Alaskan Native.
