Kaitlyn dashed for the front door, and gave her mom a hug and then her dad. Kaitlyn asked her dad, “Do you have to go?” “Yes. We don’t get out as often as your mom and I would like to. Kaitlyn it will just be a few hours be strong and plus you have your mighty German Shepherd, Macy,” answered Kaitlyn’s dad. “Okay. Love you dad,” said Kaitlyn. “Love you to the moon and back.” “You coming sweetheart, we're going to miss our reservation.” yelled Kaitlyn’s mother from out in the car. “Yeah I’m coming.” Kaitlyn’s father yelled back “Bye dad” Kaitlyn said as her dad dashed out onto the brick path. Kaitlyn stepped out onto the faded gray porch and waved her parents off.
When Kaitlyn went back into the house she gave Macy her food and then microwaved some food and ate. After Kaitlyn ate she ran to the living room and turned off all the lights, when she was done turning off the lights she grabbed a blanket and watched Netflix. While Kaitlyn watched her movie she kept looking at the window and saw a little light coming from the porch and raindrops like tears on the window.
Then Kaitlyn paused her movie and heard…. Steps on the porch, ding-dong Kaitlyn jumped to her feet with her phone crashing on the floor. Kaitlyn walked slowly and quietly to the door, with thoughts rolling through her head. When Kaitlyn got to the door she bumped into something soft, she realized that is was Macy. “Macy go lay down,” insisted Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn peard out the window and saw…. Red and blue flashing lights. Kaitlyn quickly unlocked the door to see a big man with short brown curly hair, green eyes, and had a police uniform on Kaitlyn expected him to be in his early 30s. “Hi, my name is Officer Mark Chandler is a Miss. Kaitlyn Gantner home?” questioned Mark. “Yes she is, well I am Kaitlyn,” answered Kaitlyn in a very scared voice. “Good, well can I come in?” asked Mark. Before Kaitlyn could answer Mark was already stepping into the house. When he was all the way in Kaitlyn closed the door and lead Mark to the living room.
When they both got settled on opposite ends of the light blue couch and Mark started to talk, “Kaitlyn I am here for a very serious reason,” Kaitlyn started to get very worried, “So here it goes Kaitlyn your parents…. There…. Well there….gone.”Once the words got into Kaitlyn’s head she started to ball and she couldn't stop. Mark reached for the tissue box and started grabbing as many as he could and handed them to Kaitlyn.
After what seemed like forever Kaitlyn stopped crying. “So do you have any living relatives around this area,” asked Mark. “Yeah. My grandma lives a little ways from here,” Kaitlyn answered. “Well can you go pack up some of your stuff. Once the police inspect this place you can get the rest of your stuff,” said Mark “Okay,” Kaitlyn ran upstairs trying to fight the tears. A few minutes later Kaitlyn came downstairs to see dozens upon dozens of police officers. When Kaitlyn spotted Mark she curved thought mounds of policeman and a couple of reporters. “Mark?” Kaitlyn said hesitantly. “Yes,” said Mark as he turned around. “Can we get going I can’t stand to hear my parent’s names,”said Kaitlyn. “Yes we can go,”said Mark. “Okay thank you,” said Kaitlyn. When they both were in the car Mark started the engine and started to go. “So are you okay now?” asked Mark. “Yeah I am fine,” answered Kaitlyn. The rest of the car ride was quiet.
Finally they pulled up to the old two-story house. Mark got out of the car first and got Kaitlyn’s under armour duffle bag that she used for basketball earlier in the year. Kaitlyn stepped out onto the cracked brick walkway that led up to her grandma’s house. When Kaitlyn finally spotted her grandma she ran to her and when she reached her grandma she broke out into a hug. When they both stopped crying grandma Monica said, “Thank you Mark for getting her here safely.” “No problem,” said Mark. “Would you like to have some cookies with Kaitlyn and I,” Monica asked. “If you would like me to,” answered Mark. “We would love to have you,” said Kaitlyn. So they all walked into the house and ate some cookies. Kaitlyn thought of that night a lot over the next few years and finally realized that God did it for a reason even though Kaitlyn didn’t want him to do it.
