  • oh my gosh I didn't get an assignment!
  • "we accept you apology"
  • "We accept your apology"
  • "I have caused you anxiety" She said "I apologize to my community".
  • "I accept your apology"
  • ooooooohhh!
  • "Jonas has been selected to be our next Receiver of Memory"
  • oooooooohhhhh
  • What is that?
  • The calling of the assignments has finished. The problem is Jonas or number 19 was not called they skipped right over him and called 20. Jonas and the crowd are nervous and scared for what his fate might be.
  • The Receiver of Memory is the man who takes in all the memories and must live alone and apart from everyone.
  • "This sounds like something I won't like" Jonas thinks.
  • The chief elder did not make a mistake. She was sorry though that she has caused the community anxiety. She specifcally apologised to Jonas who she scared the most.
  • To be the Receiver you must have, intelligence, integrity, wisdom,courage,and the ability to see beyond. 
  • Jonas was not assigned a role. He was selected a role. That role is the receiver of memory. The most profound and important job in the community. Jonas has no clue what that is though.
  • Jonas!Jonas!Jonas!
  • "I thank you for your childhood"
  • I don't think I fit the job.
  • The Chief Elder explains to the community about the Receiver of Memory. It is someone that takes the memories of everyone and learn them. He must live alone and be apart from everyone in the community. This makes Jonas uneasy.
  • The elder goes over the requirements that are need to be the Receiver of Memories. They are courage,wisdom,integrity,intelligence, and the ability to see beyond. This last trait is indescribable that only the Current Receiver and Jonas who will understand it later know what it is.
  • Jonas on the stage is thanked for his childhood as he thinks about the job he has just received. Before he can say how he does not think he fits the job the crowd chants his name as a sign of respect.
