  • Beginning the speaker is home alone sad aout his lost love lenore and hears taping but just ignores it
  • internal ryhme, napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
  • imagery- once upon a midnight dreary, while i pondered weak and weary
  • finally opens the door and nothings there but hears a tapping on his window and opens it to a raven who flys in and sits on a bust above the door
  • simile suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
  • repitition- rapping rapping tapping tapping at my chamber door this is repeated throughout the story
  • he starts to speak to the raven and it talks back to him. Alliteration-What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore
  • nevermore
  • metaphor- with mien of lord or lady, the bird acts like a human
  • speaks to himself saying the bird will soon leave him and the bird says nevermore
  • wretch, thy God hath lent thee - by these angels he has sent thee Respite - respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore! Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore!'
  • finally he loses his temper and starts to scream at the raven talking of how he is thinking of and wants to forget lenore
  • he tells the raven to leave and it replys "nevermore" then never leaves
