In the beginning of the story Odysseus and his men enter the cave. They wait for the cyclops to return to see what he has to offer. (Usually they are suppose to show hospitality but this cyclops wasn't going to. He explains that he does not play by Zeus's or any of the other gods rules. He ends up picking up 2 of Odysseus's men and eats them.
A little bit later in the story Odysseus comes up with a plan. Once the cyclops left they made a fire a made a weapon with it. They then would give him wine a make him highly intoxicated.
In the middle of the story when the cyclops is passed out Odysseus jabs a sharpened pole through his eye. This plan fails and he just pulls the pole right out of his eye.
