He then finds the right time to make his move at carnival. He then lures the exposed Fortunato into his catacomb because his obsession for wine which later results in his death.
  • Evidence
  • Montresor's revenge wasn't justified.
  • Analysis
  • The reason why his revenge was not justified is because all that Fortunato did was roast him then as a result, Montresor decided to bury him alive. The statement "eye for an eye" was not followed in this instance.
  • Conclusion
  • "He was slightly tipsy from the wine he'd drunk at the festival...three feet wide, four feet deep, and six feet high. Go in, I urged Amontillado--straight ahead!"
  • This shows that Montresor's revenge wasn't justified as he persuaded a drunk man into a death trap. Not to mention that all that Fortunato did was roast him and the way that Montresor got his revenge was by executing him. Eye for an eye, more like eye for a body.
  • Montresor endured verbal abuse by Fortunato, however, he shouldn't have killed him for his wrong doings.
