Bullying by Mrs. Herrington
Being a bystander makes you just as guilty as the bully.
"Just ignore them, Donnie." "Why don't you stand up for yourself, Donnie?" "Don't be a baby!"
Mitchell Frampton punches Donnie repeatedly in the should during gym class. The teachers and the other students don't pay any attention and don't care.
See ya later, Donnie.
Kyra sees the bullying and sympathizes with Donnie, but does nothing to help him. She takes pictures and sends them to Donnie though, so at least she doesn't ignore the bullying like everyone else.
Donnie thinks about telling his mom about Mitchell punching him, but decides not to because he remembers her ignoring him in the past when he was bullied. She just told him to ignore the bullies.
The other students treat Donnie as an outcast. Cal, who is supposed to be best friends with Donnie, perpetuates the bullying by walking away and ignoring Donnie whenever his more popular friends, the jocks, come by. Donnie acts like it doesn't bother him, but his emotions betray him and readers can tell it hurts him.
