  • Ralph
  • •Chief, looks strong, will lead •considered the "ego" of personality •believes being chief is to lead the people and not to have power over people, he wants to keep the kids safe while they are on the island •not the strongest or smartest, but not the weakest or least intelligent •keeps a fire going in hopes of getting rescued
  • Piggy
  • •least likely to survive physically with his asthma, weight, and vision, but definitely the smartest •considered the "super-ego" of personality •thinks of things in a civilized sense •makes everything about life relate to science and thinks like this throughout the book •killed by Roger
  • Jack
  • •wants to be chief,but is not elected chief against Ralph •considered the "ID" of personality •thinks Ralph is not running the tribe properly and creates his own tribe with his hunters •focuses survival on hunting and killing pigs instead of getting rescued •wants to gain power to take charge •does not handle loosing society well, becomes a savage
  • Simon
  • •compared to Jesus because he is full of wisdom people do not want to hear •the beast is inside his mind causing him to go insane •he is the only boy to fully understand that the beast is just the idea of the negativity of mankind and the terrible parts of human nature •despite knowing about the beast, he is still influenced by it with hallucinations and dehydration •killed by the boys when he crawls into Jack's feast, the boys think he is the beast in disguise and proceed to kill him
  • Roger
  • •has a very destructive nature even before the tribe starts to break up •he kicks over the littluns sandcastles for no reason and laughs about it •wants to gain power to hurt others •becomes murderous and psychopathic over time •pulls the lever which makes the bolder fall onto Piggy, killing him
  • Samneric
  • •twin brothers •called by one name starting with Jack, this shows the lack of individuality •in charge of keeping the fire going •generally speak together and finish each other's sentences •generally do everything together •last of the biguns to stay with Ralph besides Piggy
