The Wexstan's son did as dying Beowulf asked. The brave young warrior went into the darkness to discover "Piles of gleaming gold, precious gems, scattered on the floor..."
There was no one else there; he took what he wanted. Filling his arms with all he could hold. Even Beowulf's dagger and iron blade. Beowulf had ended the burning raids forever.
Wiglaf rushes back the Beowulf to show him the treasures they'd won. The king was bloody, gasping for air. Beowulf than says " For this, this gold, these jewels, I thank our Father in Heaven. "
He asks to have a tomb built on the edge of the land so all sailors can see. And to have it be called Beowulf's Tower. He gave his belongings to Wiglaf and told him to use them well. "His soul left his flesh, flew to glory..."
When the battle finished all of Beowulf's followers came out of hiding. They'd been to scared to defend their king. The people lay their shields down next to him and await Wiglaf's speech. The king had held on as long as he could.
Wiglaf was angry as he turnedto the men without courage. He said " I say what anyone who speaks the truth must say... Too few of his warriors remembered to come, when our lord faced death, alone."
The Geats built the tower as Beowulf asked. It was strong and tall So sailors shall find it far and wide. it took 10 days for it to be built along withthe treasures left to rest along side him. The 12 bravest Greats rode telling oftheir sarrow, the greatness of the king, his glory. " No better king had erver lived, no prince so mild, no man so open to his people, so deserving of praise.
