  • Renaissance: The Renaissance is a period from the 14th to the 17th century, considered the bridge between the Middle Ages and Modern history Cassandra Fedele: The most renowned woman scholar in Italy during the last decades of the Quattrocento.
  • Welcome to the Venice Italy! Home of Cassandra Fedele, a female writer in the renaissance. Lets meet her!
  • Hi! I'm Cassandra Fedele. I was born in 1465 and I died in 1558.
  • Fedele does not mention her mother in her writings, however, we have evidence that her father was respected among the aristocracy and took a great interest in his daughter's learning.
  • Father: Angelo Fedele
  • Mother: Barbra Leoni
  • When Fedele became fluent in Greek and Latin at the age of twelve, she was sent by her father to Gasparino Borro, a Servite monk, who tutored her in classical literature, philosophy, science, and dialectics.
  • In 1487, at twenty-two, she was successful in Italy and abroad when she gave a Latin speech in praise of the arts and sciences at her cousin's graduation at Padua.
