Storyboard Text

  • I'm Johann Dobereiner and I want to sort all the elements into groups of three called triads!
  • Your findings are just a coincidence. Why should the properties of elements be connected to their atomic mass?
  • The atomic mass of the middle element in each triad is the mean of the other two in the triad. The triads are chemically similar.
  • But not all of the known elements can fit into your scheme. Scientists will not take you seriously.
  • I am John Newlands and I think the elements should be sorted into octaves like a musical scale.
  • That's a silly idea, what do elements have to do with music? It's all just chance that it works for the first 17 elements.
  • I am Dmitri Mendeleev and the idea of the periodic table came to me in a dream. There are lots of elements that we don't know and I have predicted them.
  • Your 'Periodic Table' does sound believable but I'm not sure about the elements you predicted.
  • Aha! My predictions are correct! This proves how there are more elements that we don't know about. My way of ordering the elements by relative atomic mass is correct!
  • Yay!
  • This is brilliant. We will name an element after you for your amazing discoveries. It will be called Mendelevlum with the atomic number of 101.
