  • Imagery
  • In this scene, Doodle's older brother is teaching him how to walk, so he is making him do a bunch of hard exercising.
  • Theme
  • The bleeding tree represents the scene when Doodle's brother finds Doodle dead by the "bleeding tree", at the end of the story.
  • Dynamic Character
  • "The flower garden was stained with rotting brown magnolia petals and iron-weeds grew rank amid the purple phlox. The five o' clocks by the chimney still marked time, but the oriole nest in the elm was untenanted and rocked back and forth like an empty cradle. The last graveyard flowers were blooming , and their smell drifted across the cotton field and through every room f your house, house speaking softly the names of our dead. Page - 350
  • Personal Reaction
  • This scene from the story is when the family is crowded around Doodle after he was born. The family is sad because they have a person in their life that is crippled. The theme of this story is be thankful for what you get. The reason why I choose this theme is because in the story the brother was so angry abut having a crippled brother that he is "getting him ready", for the world by making him do things.
  • This is the scene at the end of the story when Doodle died. His brother changed as the story went on and he definitely changed at the end. At first Doodle's brother was going to kill Doodle in his sleep cause he did not want to have a crippled brother. But, as the story went on Doodle's brother started to help Doodle so he could face the real world.
  • At the end of the story I feel bewildered. I think Doodle's brother is a good brother as the story goes on. The reason why is because he tried to get Doodle to be able to walk and be able to run and do other things like a normal kid and Doodle's brother helped him do all of those things. It just made him die at the end. But, his brother did not know that was going to happen.
