  • Apodyterium
  • Tepidarium
  • Before going to the first bath, the Romans would exercise in courtyards to work up a light sweat which was recommended before the baths.
  • Caldarium
  • The Apodyterium was where the Romans would normally get out of their clothes for they bathed naked.
  • Frigidarium
  • This was the first area you would go to before the caldarium. Here you or the servants would use a curved metal object to wipe off oil, sweat, and dirt.
  • Entertainment
  • The Caldarium is the hottest room in the Roman baths. the hot water and steamy air were meant to open your pores. The room was heated by a furnace system called the hypocaust.
  • The frigidarium is designed to close the pores and is often the last bath of a visitor.
  • The Entertainment is to stimulate the mind as the baths are to stimulate the body. The entertainment was stuff like poetry, gymnastics and other things.
