THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR
I refuse to recognize the legitimacy of secession!
Less than a century after the Revolution which created the United States, a fierce civil war began, defining what kind of nation it would be.
Its cause was slavery. The Northern States endorsed that it was against religion, morality and economic development. That was proved by the Southern States which were unable to create a local market und were underdeveloped.
Abraham Lincoln won election in 1860 as the first Republican president on a platform pledging to keep slavery out of the territories. Seven slave states in the deep South seceded and formed a new nation, the Confederate States of America.
