  • Go now quickly, Dearest Wiglaf, under the gray stone Where the dragon is laid out, lost to his treasure Lines 2744-2745
  • Wiglaf does as Beowulf asks and goes to get the treasure where the dragon is no longer an issue.
  • Fate swept us away,Sent my whole brave high-born clan To their final doom. Now I must follow them. Lines 2815-2816
  • A distraught Wiglaf begins to build the barrow, Beowulf's dying request.
  • Every one of youWith freeholds of land, our whole nation,Will be dispossessed, once princes from beyondGet tidings of how you turned and fledAnd disgraced yourselves. A warrior will sooner Die than live a life of shame. Lines 2885-2891
  • The Geats bury their hero, fearing what will become of them without their great king. Beowulf's men contemplate their cowardly actions and reflect. the people honor him with memorial so that all who sail by may know that Beowulf was a hero.
