How Polar Bears Got Their Color
In this population, some polar bears have white fur and others have grey. This is called variation.
White polar bears can easily sneak up on their prey because they blend in with the snow. They can also hide from predators without difficulty.
Polar bears with a darker color, are spotted easily by prey, so they have difficulty getting food.
White polar bears can survive and produce offspring with their genes due to their ability to camouflage, but grey ones die off due to lack of food which is a result of their variation.
Over the years, more and more white bears reproduced, while more and more grey bears died off. Through evolution, the polar bear population is now made entirely of white polar bears.
