In 1793, King Louis was executed with a devise known as a guillotine. Which was the devise also used during Robespierre's reign of terror.

November 1799, Napoleon seized power in a coup d'etet.
Before Napoleon, France was under a regime, known as the Old Regime, and had 3 estates. Napoleon as a leader stopped that when he crowned himself emperor in 1804.
I don't need a pope to crown me. I'll do it myself.
Napoleons next move as emperor was to create a code called the Napoleonic code. This was the first legal code established in France.
We will call it the Napoleonic code!
Some believe Napoleon was very successful. One reason is because of his defeat in Russia.
Although he was a good leader at times, the people of France exiled him to Elba in 1815.
