In the book 'Monster' Walter Dean Myers uses setting to create the theme, every decision has a consequence. For example the setting on Page 2 is, "They say you get used to being in jail, but I don't see how." This is an example because it shows that he doesn't like jail, and because he made a bad decision he now has to face the consequence that is jail. Another example is on Monday, July 13th "There is a feeling of expectation in the air." This is an example because you have higher expectations and you need to meet them. Finally on December, 5 months after he got out of Jail, he says " Whatever I do pleases my mother, because I am here with her and not put away in some jail." This is an example because he made a good decision ,therefore he had a good consequence and got to go home and be with his mother. Everything you do, and every decision you make has a consequence. Some consequences however are good and not bad, and throughout Steve's journey to jail he realized that every decision has a consequence .
